Colombia Congress a great success

Today two delegates from FAIR returned from the Second International Congress of Terrorist victims held in Bogota, Colombia. This trip was of great value to the victims sector in Northern Ireland as a whole, in that the interests of those that suffered at the hands of IRA criminals were represented and contacts were made at the international level which will benefit all those that have suffered.

During the trip meetings were had with President Uribe of Colombia and with former Prime minister of Spain Jose-Maria Aznar, both of whom were very positive towards us having experienced so much in their own countries from terrorists networking with the IRA. Meetings were also had with high ranking security officials in the Colombian establishment. From these meetings a letter of introduction was obtained to enable further dealings and co-operation via the Colombian embassy in London.

During the meetings with officials we were made aware of Colombian intelligence regarding the current location of the Colombia 3, detail which was very specific. Not only this, but we received information regarding other IRA members that have spent time in Colombia carrying out similar activities to those on the run.

We have also received information that there is to be an international gathering of terrorists held in the near future for them to address the current global opposition and revulsion to their activities. We call upon both the British and Irish governments to do all in their power to prevent IRA terrorists from being able to attend and participate in this appalling event.
