After watching the BBC documentary regarding the abduction and subsequent murder of Captain Robert Nairac, one could not help but wonder why there have been no arrests relating to this case.
The main difficulty that victims have with moving on towards peace and reconciliation is that the killers who have affected victims’ lives so much, are still walking the streets freely, with no apparent intention on the part of the government to have them arrested for their crimes. On hearing the revelations on last night’s documentary, we would appeal for the arrest of Brian Oliver Smith and Kevin Crilly. These two mens’ involvement in the IRA needs to be investigated and the accusations of their involvement in the Kingsmills and Tullyvallen atrocities (to name just a couple) fully disclosed.
Unfortunately it seems to be the case that the victims are the main ones carrying out any investigations. This should not be the case, but if we have to, we will be knocking on doors of killers, as we have done in the past, to confront them about their involvement in murders. The government will not be allowed to spring-clean the atrocities carried out by unrepentant terrorists, just to placate the government’s political agenda. The truth will come out, with or without the help of the government.
