Victims Need Actio

In conjunction with many people across Europe, FAIR members today held a two minutes silence in memory of the victims of the London bombings. As victims themselves, FAIR recognises that the sympathy of nations is most heartening to the families affected. However they also understand that people troubled by terrorist acts, need not only sympathy, but action against those perpetrators past, present and those who would act in the future.

FAIR calls on Tony Blair to send a clear message to all terrorists - terrorism will never work. We would also ask him to treat all victims with the dignity and respect they deserve. The only way to move forward is to attack terrorism from two sides, the intelligence service and police on one side and the true story of victims on the other front - telling the true story of hurt and suffering caused by terrorism. It is not a noble cause; it is the callous slaughter of men, women and children. Terrorists have tried to de-humanise their actions even here in Northern Ireland where the IRA claimed to be attacking the uniform not the individual.

Terrorists have for too long been winning a propaganda war, leading the impressionable to believe they are freedom fighters and romantic patriots. It is time to dispel that myth once and for all. Let the victims unite, let the Government stand to support us, the terrorists must never win.
