No Shrine to Terrorists

It has come to our attention that the government is seriously contemplating turning a portion of the Maze Prison site into a shrine for terrorists, which they would then describe as a conflict resolution centre. This is being done at the same time as the government has consistently refused to provide support to FAIR in the construction of their 'Living Memorial Centre' project to develop adequate facilities to help innocent victims of the conflict rebuild their lives, tell their stories and receive emotional, physical and welfare assistance.

We wish to make it clear to the government at this stage that people are still suffering horrendously and often in silence because of the terrorist crimes committed by men that were incarcerated in the Maze. The final insult would be to keep the site and to maintain it in this manner which would serve to glorify terrorism, and be used as a propaganda to try to justify their criminality.

The victims have pledged to prevent this from happening at any cost. If the proposed plan goes ahead they are more than prepared to bulldoze the site to the ground irrespective of the consequences, be that jail or whatever. They did not fear the terrorists and so will not fear the government working hand in hand with the terrorists. We would seriously advise the government and planning authorities responsible for this decision to check the feeling on the ground before they give in to another bout of IRA appeasement.
