Today (11th November 2005) is a poignant day for the United Kingdom as it recalls those who made the supreme sacrifice for Country, Justice and Democracy. It is fitting therefore that 50 innocent victims affected by the conflict in Northern Ireland (primarily families of RUC/UDR members) have travelled to participate in several memorial activities in London this morning.
This afternoon (at 3PM) the joint group from FAIR & MAST will be meeting members of the House of Lords to lobby on the insulting 'On The Runs' Legislation. Tony Blair may be able to force this injustice through Parliament but we will endeavour to halt it whether it be in the Commons, The Lords or at EU level.
Tomorrow the group will travel to Westminster Abbey for a national memorial to the UDR & RUC where they will pay tribute to their loved ones. Sunday will see the party witnessing the cenotaph service in central London before returning to Northern Ireland.
It is tragic that on the day when the nation remembers those who have died, that sadness and reflection has been infiltrated by anger and a feeling of betrayal. Innocent Victims in Northern Ireland want Tony Blair, Members of both houses at Westminster and the general population of the United Kindom to know that we will not accept this injustice being forced upon us. The good citizens of London, Edinburgh and Cardiff would not tolerate such insults, nor would they have such actions forced upon them - why should we?.
