They Haven't Gone Away You Know

FAIR has continually warned about the consequences of the demilitarisation of South Armagh. Now our words of caution to the Secretary of State have been proved correct. The Republican's incendiary devices that destroyed properties in Newry has to be seen as a serious escalation in terrorist activity within the South Armagh area. Could it be that this is only the beginning of a Republican bombing campaign? Yet the Secretary of State continues to dismantle any security installations left in the South Armagh region.

We at FAIR have witnessed the hurt and pain caused by IRA terror in South Armagh and in 1975, the then Secretary of State apologised to the people of South Armagh for not being able to protect them. Peter Hain has been repeatedly warned of the consequences of the current demilitarisation project in this area. We sincerely hope that he will not be coming to apologise on behalf of the British government once more, for not being able to protect the people of South Armagh from Republican terror. These recent attacks may herald the start of a fresh terrorist campaign, but this is really just history repeating itself, which we have warned of repeatedly. Once again the target is the Northern Ireland economy.

We as victims will not stand by again and watch the IRA terrorise us and remain silent. We have been silent for too long.
