As a south Armagh group of victims who have suffered severely from the numerous terrorist atrocities and activities in our area, we are greatly concerned about the conditions of the disbandment of the police reserve. The group contains many people who served and still serve on the reserve and are affected by this situation.
We believe that the package being offered to the reserve for substantial disbandment is insufficient given the commitment and danger these men have experienced. It was not for money they signed up in the first place it was for love of country and for the defence and maintenance of law and order in their communities that they were willing to put their lives on the line for.
These men that are being laid off from the police reserve basically as another fob to terrorists in the continued appeasement of republican terrorism. At very least they should be given an opportunity to move into the PSNI, not that we could understand why they would want to do that.
When the amount of money being thrown at the paramilitaries considered what is being offered is nothing more than an insult to the people. A number of members of the police reserve have asked for a representative of FAIR to go to the forthcoming talks at Leeds Castle in Kent, so that the presence of the victims can be seen and felt, and so that there can be no excuses if issues of justice and victimhood are once again ignored.
