After meeting today with the DUP the FAIR delegation to Stormont were reassured personally by Dr Ian Paisley that the IRA have not and will not be let off the hook. It was made clear that the publicised issue of the photographic evidence of decommissioning was not the singular issue but that there were other relevant issues that also needed clarification by Sinn Fein/IRA.
It was the two governments that hyped the issue of the photograph in order to shift media attention away from the consistent moral stand the DUP have taken against the terrorists in order to make them seem to be the unreasonable side rather than the terrorists.
The issue at stake is not just the decommissioning of weapons, but is far deeper than that. It is the decommissioning of the mindset of terror and violence, which once again Sinn Fein/IRA have shown themselves unwilling to do. As victims of terrorism we applaud the DUP for the time they have taken to reassure the victims and for their consistent stand on this crucial issue in the face of the combined onslaught from Dublin and London, and the cohorts of Adams and McGuiness.
