02/06/05 - FAIR CONCERN OVER DRUGS SEIZURE

FAIR have reacted with concern regarding a recent seizure of Cocaine by Spanish authorities. Approximately five tones of the illegal drug were seized off the coast of the Canary Islands earlier this week. The haul had a street value of approximately 225 million.

Armed police raided the fishing vessel which had been tracked across the Atlantic from Latin America in a joint operation by police and customs in Spain, Portugal and the UK. It is thought the drugs were bound for all three countries.

Overall 12 arrests have been made including two men reportedly carrying Irish Passports, members of the Spanish criminal underworld and several Columbians.

FAIR Director William Frazer stated "We at FAIR are aware of the existing link between the Spanish Terrorists ETA, Columbian Drugs, FARC and Irish Republicanism. We call on all governments involved to investigate whether any of these drugs were destined for Northern Ireland shores and also whether profits from this shipment would have used to fund the Republican terror campaign."
